CBGB’S GREATEST HITS
Did you make it to CBGB’s rock-star block party in Times Square on Saturday? Now get the back story on this iconic club with the rock doc, “CBGB,” playing at the Village East Cinema. In 1973, the late Hilly Kristal opened the club as a home for country, bluegrass, and blues, which was acronymed to CBGB before texting was ever a thing. But despite its country roots, what it’s best known for is the irreverent punk rock scene it launched. Over its 33 year run, before shuttering in 2006, it was the pantheon of rock’n’roll greats, from the Talking Heads and the Police to Patti Smith, and of course, the Ramones.
