STILL THE ONE
Monday marked the end of an empire: One World Trade Center surpassed
the height of the Empire State Building, which is currently the
tallest skyscraper in New York City, by 21 feet. A column on the new
steel structure of the 100th floor of 1WTC brought the new colossus to
a cloud-grazing height of 1,271 feet, reported CNN.com. When this
mega-building at ground zero is completed sometime in early 2014, it
will reach 1,776 feet—unseating not only the Empire State Building,
but the country’s current record holder, the 1,450-foot-tall Willis
Tower in Chicago (a.k.a. the Sears Tower).
