LOWLINE LOOKING UP
The Lowline has high aspirations to build the world’s first underground park in an abandoned trolley terminal below Delancey Street—and tonight this lowly cause gets a little help from its friends in high places (namely Andrew Wyatt of Miike Snow and members of MGMT and Kuroma) for a special fundraising event at The Box. If all goes well, Lower East Side hipster kids could soon have their own Fraggle Rock-style playground—however, for now, you can get down with The Lowline Super Group and Au Revoir Simone to help this underground movement.

AFTER-WORK BIKE PARTY
It’s bring your bike to work day! With the city’s bike-sharing program set to launch on Memorial Day, Bike Month is kicking into high gear for its last weeks. Peddle to work today and then throw down your kickstand for a celebration of commuter cycling with an after-party in DUMBO. On your way to work, power up with free Kind bars and coffee at stations at the bridges, and then head over to the after-work biker party for a Reflective Fashion Show (safety is always in style), raffles for gear, food vendors, and a beer garden sponsored by the Brooklyn Brewery. ABC COCINA OPENS
Less than two weeks ago, Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s Latin-themed spinoff of ABC Kitchen opened in the adjacent space formerly occupied by Pipa. “Like its sister restaurant next door, ABC Cocina serves food made with locally sourced ingredients in a space designed by the senior creative team at ABC Carpet & Home. Dan Kluger, the chef from ABC Kitchen, is running the kitchen, turning out a menu of small plates and dishes that are cooked on a wood-fired grill,” reports Eater.com. The reviews are streaming in and the verdict is: caliente-spot.

PEDAL PUSHERS
By now you’ve seen the Citi Bike stations cropping up around town faster than weeds. There are some 330 station and 6,000 bikes throughout Manhattan and Brooklyn to be precise making it the largest bike-sharing program in the nation (but for those who recall the stylish Tour de Fashion for Fashion Week 2011, it’s not the city’s first). Launching sometime this month, which happens to be Bike Month, the cheerful blue bikes are designed to get riders from point A to point B, rather than a full-day outing because borrowers must re-dock them every 30 minutes. Happy biking, New York!

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY
This Mother’s Day don’t just go local—go native: Fill your weekend with flowers and garden parties at the city’s botanical gardens. Treat mom to a relaxed pureDKNY beach floral print tank, or some chic retro-inspired DKNY shades, and then head up to the New York Botanical Gardens for the newly designed Native Plant Garden. Take a bird walk, see a home gardening demo, and even try a watercolor painting class. Subway out to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden for its “Locally Sourced: Rare Plants, Rare Places” garden and world-famous cherry blossoms. Happy Mother’s Day!
DIY VERSUS MADE TO MEASURE
After a VIP gala, followed by two days of members-only viewings, the Costume Institute’s “Punk: Chaos to Couture”is finally open to the hoi polloi. The exhibit compares the punk-rock ethos of “do-it-yourself” with the couture concept of “made-to-measure,”through seven galleries organized around materials, technique, and embellishments. Says the museum, “Themes will include New York and London, which will tell punk’s origin story as a tale of two cities, followed by Clothes for Heroes and four manifestations of the D.I.Y. aesthetic—Hardware, Bricolage, Graffiti and Agitprop, and Destroy.”

NAILING THE LOOK
On Monday night, the red carpet at the annual Met Gala became a creative runway for high couture spiked with a punk-rock attitude—quite literally. Racked.com was on-hand for the pre-party primping, prepping, and safety-pinning, covering the action tweet by tweet. Irreverence was the feel, from faux-hawks to studded statements, and DKNY PR Girl Aliza Licht earned cred for tweeting the first punk-rock nail art pic, “Taking punk to the next level. #DonnaKaranAtelier mani & #Irit jewels.”“Shameless”star Emmy Rossum was rocking a Donna Karan dress—and a killer set of nails.

NYCB SPRING GALA
There’s more than some spring in the step of the New York City Ballet. Celebrate the NYCB’s Spring Gala with a one-time only program tonight, featuring guest artist Queen Latifah, as well as premieres from Christopher Wheeldon and excerpts from the company’s American Music Festival, including music by Samuel Barber, Leonard Bernstein, George Gershwin, Philip Glass, and John Philip Sousa. The company will debut Wheeldon’s “Soirée Musicale” and “A Place for Us,” a pas de deux with scores for clarinet and piano by André Previn and Bernstein. (Tickets start at just $29.)
