PERK UP
Over the last two years so many great coffee shops have opened in New
York, it’s hard to choose between them. For coffee snobs and serious
baristas, Eater.com has compiled some of the hottest spots explaining
“a truly great cafe experience is also about the vibe, location, and
personalities of the people that work there.” These aren’t your
ordinary cups of joe and even midtown has caught up with the downtown
coffee scene: “Culture Espresso Bar is perhaps the best non-chain
coffee shop in midtown. They almost always use espresso from Chicago’s
Intelligentsia, but they also mix it up by brewing beans.”

![STAY ALERT
Now you can clear up the Mondaze with more than just your standard cup
of java: Glamour.com has found some new ways to get your caffeine
boost. “Everyday food items are getting a bit of buzz.” On the
not-so-weird side, you can stay alert with brownies and chocolate chip
cookies spiked with 200 mg of caffeine (that’s about two cups of
coffee). However, then there’s the creatively monikered Perky Jerky,
“dehydrated beef or turkey that’s infused with guarana, a bean similar
to the one [used for] coffee” and even potato chips that are pumped
with the same amount of “caffeine as in nearly 4.5 cans of soda with
just one bag.” Those would be the anti-couch potato chips.
