NEW YORK DOES CARE
It’s cold out there! Now just imagine if you didn’t have a warm coat. “New York Cares hopes to collect 100,000 coats this winter,” reports the New York Times’ City Room blog. “But so far, just 8,500 have been donated.” Meanwhile the organization has already gotten 97,000 requests. Organizers speculate donations are down 25 percent because the weather has been relatively mild until recently, but now that winter has served up one chilly reminder, you can drop off new or gently used coats at your local police precinct, Grand Central Terminal, and other convenient locations around the city.
