MUSEUM’S NIGHT OUT

Call it Museum’s Night Out: Starting at 6 p.m. tonight, Museum Mile will host its annual block party featuring free admission to some of the city’s most exciting exhibits, special events, and outdoor art displays. Spanning from 82nd Street to 105th Street on Fifth Avenue, this epic art walk kicks off on the steps of The Jewish Museum at 5:45 p.m. and ends around 9 p.m. Grab some chalk and get creative on the sidewalks of the Guggenheim, join a lively street party at El Museo del Barrio, or check out electro-pop cabaret performer Kim Smith at the Neue Galerie.

 WEAR A FEW HATS

New Yorkers wear a lot of hats, but Gordon Parks was more than just your typical slashie. He was a true renaissance man and a figure ahead of his time. The late-great photographer/writer/musician/film director/composer is probably best known for his impactful photo essays in “Life” magazine, his 1971 film “Shaft,” and his book-turned-movie “The Learning Tree.” Continuing his legacy the Gordon Parks Foundation held its annual gala earlier this week at The Plaza honoring creative leaders, including photographer Peter Beard, producer Swizz Beatz, and Donna Karan. Let Parks be your inspiration to wear as many hats as you can!

JUGGLING ACT

Feel like it’s Wednesday and you’re already juggling a lot? Take a break with the U.S. premiere of David Hockney’s first video installation, “The Juggler,” now on view at the Whitney (through September 1). This multiscreen tableau was filmed using 18 cameras and shows jugglers as they move across 18 screens framed by a pink wall and a blue floor. Dressed in all black, the figures juggle brightly colored objects creating what could almost be described as a visual metaphor for the chaotic fun of planning a fashion show—complete with a high-energy soundtrack.

THE SOHO WALL: REIMAGINED

For more than a decade and a half, it was a cherished New York City landmark sitting at the gateway of Soho’s shops: The DKNY mural by Peter Arnell watched over Houston Street for some 16 years before coming down in 2008. Five years later, DKNY revives its artistic legacy with #DKNYArtworks, a street-style showcase of 10 artists and 10 cities around the globe, reports WWD.com. PIANOS IN THE PARK

Sing us a song, piano boys and girls. Sing out loud, sing out strong. Sing of good things, not bad. Sing of happy, not sad. As you may have noticed over the weekend, the Pianos for Hope are back for another season of spontaneous park concerts through June 16. This public art installation features 88 artist-designed pianos (one for each piano key) across the five boroughs. Whether your musical talent goes as far as “Chopsticks” or Chopin, pull up a stool and play us a melody.

Kids of the ’80s might remember the low-fi classic, “The Adventures of Milo and Otis,” which made cute cats hanging out with cute dogs a thing way before funny cat videos ever existed. It also featured a soundtrack by Ryuichi Sakamoto, an internationally renowned artist who has come a long way since then with an Academy Award, two Golden Globes, and a Grammy. Now he and his longtime collaborator Alva Noto, a.k.a. Carsten Nicolai, bring their acclaimed A/V show “s” to New York for the first time ever at the Metropolitan Museum tonight.

FAMOUS FOR BEING FAMOUS

Raised in New York City, photographer Ricky Powell spent much of the ’80s capturing a movement of downtown artists who were responsible for coining a new term, “famous for being famous.” Curated by Tono Radvany, a longtime friend and cataloguer of Powell’s work, the David Kesting Gallery presents “Ricky Powell” (through June 9), an exhibit that draws parallels between downtown Manhattan circa 1985 and Bushwick circa now. Shown in wall-size prints, Powell’s images, like “Jean-Michel Basquiat” and “Andy Warhol on Mercer Street Going to Tony Shafrazi Gallery” (1985), have newfound relevance.
