WEATHER FORECASTING
It was beyond freezing cold for a week. Then it was spring for a day. Then it was winter again. The weather has been crazy with a capital C lately. So crazy that Groundhog Day doesn’t seem all that nuts this year. Since it’s anyone’s guess, why not a burrow-dwelling critter from PA called Punxsutawney Phil? This Saturday, Phil will peak out around 7:20 a.m. to predict how much longer winter will last (six more weeks if he sees his shadow). This folklore custom dates back to the 18th century and is still celebrated by Pennsylvania Germans with parties called fersommlinges featuring food and skits in the local dialect.
