STILL LIFE
Photographer David LaChapelle has certainly led the rock star life: Andy Warhol gave him his first big break working at Interview magazine and then he went on to become one of the most recognizable fashion photogs shooting covers for Vogue and Vanity Fair. Now he resides and works in Hawaii (talk about living the dream). But still he started out as an art photographer and his latest exhibition at the Paul Kasmin Galleries, “Still Life” explores the fleeting nature of fame and power through shots of a vandalized wax museum. The toppled icons are almost as eerie as that half-buried Statue of Liberty in “Planet of the Apes.”
