THE “SCENTS” AND SENSIBILITY OF MICROECONOMICS
So you’re all about fair-trade coffee, but what about fair-trade
perfume? Yep, it’s possible. To produce PureDKNY, “the brand had
partnered with CARE—a leading humanitarian organization—to help
support the local farmers who provide the raw ingredients for the
scent,” reports Refinery29.com. Watch a behind-the-scenes video on
Refinery29 and “get a sense of just how impactful this partnership is
for the local African women who produce [the perfume’s] ingredients.”
Narrated by model Angela Lindvall, the video “shows you what goes into
the fragrance, then drops some surprising knowledge and some pretty
eye-opening stats.” Did you know 70 percent of farmers in Africa are
women? It’s a fascinating case study in microeconomics that’s for
sure.
